An altercation at a Madison County gas station turned deadly when an altercation ended in gunfire.
Kentucky State Police responded Sunday night to Cannon Corner Marathon gas station at the corner of Highway 25 and Duncannon Lane at 10:15 p.m.
According to a state police release, the shooting occurred outside the business following an altercation in the parking lot.
Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison was called to the scene at 10:27 p.m. The victim, which he identified as Matthew S. Francis, 26, of Pulaski County, had been shot multiple times.
The alleged shooter, Brandon Carl Short, 22, of Waco was located and detained as detectives continued their investigation, the release continues. A citation states Short told police that during the altercation he retrieved a handgun and shot the victim.
Short was charged with murder and booked into the Madison County Detention Center, where he remained Monday afternoon, online jail records state.
KSP Post 7 Detective Charles Brandonburg is conducting the ongoing investigation. He was assisted at the scene by KSP personnel, Richmond Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Office, and the Madison County Coroner.
