UPDATE 11/15/19 3:22PM: Two Madison County Sheriff's deputies were taken to Baptist Health Richmond with injuries after being involved in a three-car collision on I-75 northbound a little after 11 a.m. Friday.

The collision occurred near mile marker 88 and, according to Trooper Adam Hall, deputies were conducting a roadside interview with a vehicle in a traffic stop when another vehicle veered right off the interstate into a cruiser.

According to Trooper Hall, five patients in the other vehicle were taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, three were adults and two were children. A canine with the deputies also was on the scene of the incident but is said to be alright.

Hall told The Register all injuries are expected to be non-life threatening.

While the interstate was closed for several hours resulting in heavy traffic in Richmond, the northbound lanes reopened after 2 p.m. Friday..

ORIGINAL STORY 11/15/19 1:30 PM: A Madison County Sheriffs Deputy has been taken to the hospital with injuries after being involved in a three-car collision on I-75 northbound.

The collision occurred near mile marker 88, after a sheriff's deputy's SUV had pulled over a truck in that area, when a third car crashed into the SUV, causing the SUV to flip, according to our news partner WKYT.

According to Carlos Coyle, Madison County EMS director, three ambulances responded to the incident transporting a total of six patients. Five patients were taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, and one was taken to a local hospital, Coyle said.

He told The Register all injuries are expected to be non-life threatening.

KYTC reports a detour is set up at I-75 northbound exit 87 to then get back on the interstate at exit 90.
