UPDATE 05/08/19 2:29 PM: Madison County sheriff's deputies have charged 58-year-old Paul Downing in connection with Tuesday's deputy-involved shooting in Madison County.
Downing faces three charges of attempted murder on a police officer, according to public information officer Michael Stotts. Downing remained at the University of Kentucky hospital because of injuries from the shooting, which Kentucky State Police continue to investigate.
Kentucky State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Madison County.
According to Trooper Robert Purdy, the shooting occurred at a residence on Masters Court just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The initial investigation indicates that the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a suicidal subject. After arriving on scene, an individual exited the residence armed with a firearm. Shots were fired by deputies and the subject sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to Purdy.
The subject has been transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
The ongoing shooting investigation is being conducted the Kentucky State Police Post 7.
