Richmond police are working to reconstruct an accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian early Thursday morning.
Officers responded to the area of Eastern Bypass and Dwight Drive at 4:52 a.m. after receiving a call that William S. Pollard, 27, Richmond, was struck by a vehicle, according to a news release from the Richmond Police Department.
When they arrived, he was unresponsive and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at the University of Kentucky Medical Center by the Fayette County Coroner's Office at 11:42 a.m.
The area was closed down to motorists for about four hours, Richmond Assistance Chief of Police Rodney Richardson said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was fully cooperative in the investigation. There was no initial indication the driver was intoxicated.
Richardson said it will take some time for the Collision Reconstruction Unit to fully investigate what happened.
