Man sentenced to 30 years for sex crimes

Judge Jean C. Logue of Circuit Court, Division II, sentenced a man on Nov. 14 to 30 years in prison total for a number of sex crimes following his 2016 arrest.

Between two cases that date back to 2016, James Powell, 59, Reed Hill, Berea, was ordered to 20 years in prison each for two counts of first-degree sodomy (victim younger than 12), to be served concurrently; five years each for two counts of first-degree sexual abuse (victim younger than 12), to be served consecutively; and 10 years each on 33 counts of use of a minor younger than 16 in a sex performance; to be served concurrently.

According to a previous Register article, Powell was arrested by Berea police after it was discovered he had engaged in sexual contact with two minors younger than 12.

Powell also took compromising photographs of both children with his cell phone, a citation reported.

He was also ordered to file as a sex offender, in addition to having to serve five years of post-incarceration supervision.

The following were also sentenced by Logue on Nov. 14:

• Erik Oliver, 33, East Irvine Street, Richmond, five years for controlled substance trafficking (heroin) and two years in a separate case for assault under extreme emotional disturbance, to be served consecutively.

• Glenda Barrett, 50, Keri Court, Richmond, five years for controlled substance trafficking (heroin), five years for controlled substance trafficking (carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives) to be served concurrently, 12 months for facilitating controlled substance trafficking (heroin) to be served concurrently, 12 months for facilitating controlled substance trafficking (carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives) to be served concurrently, five years for controlled substance trafficking (heroin) with two years of that to be consecutive and three years to be concurrent and five years for controlled substance trafficking to be served concurrently.

• Kenneth Enright, 45, West Main Street, Richmond, two years for first-degree sexual abuse, and he was ordered to file as a sex offender. He was also ordered to five years of post-incarceration supervision.

• Shannon Pigg, 42, Kingston, Kentucky, 12 months for first-degree criminal trespassing and four years for assault under extreme emotional disturbance.

• Austin McCormick, 23, Mount Vernon, five years for receiving stolen property (less than $10,000) and 90 days for operating on a suspended or revoked license. Charges of failure to wear seat belts and first-degree persistent felony offender were dismissed.

• Danny Harrison, 40, Anita Lane, Richmond, five years for second-degree burglary. A charge of first-degree persistent felony offender was dismissed. This sentence will be served consecutive to two unrelated sentences, and Harrison was ordered to pay restitution totaling $1,525.
