MANCHESTER — A Richmond woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Clay County after she was allegedly found asleep and intoxicated in a car that wasn’t hers.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Misty Downey, 39, Richmond, climbed into the backseat of a stranger’s car and fell asleep while the car was parked at a business off of South Highway 421.
When the owner of the vehicle discovered his unknown passenger, he drove her to the Clay County Administration Building where the sheriff’s office is located and alerted authorities to her presence.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, around 2 p.m., deputies arrested Downey, who appeared under the influence of drugs.
During the investigation, Deputy Cody Blackwell found suspected methamphetamine in Downey’s belongings.
Downey was charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance (excludes alcohol) and possession of a controlled substance first degree.
