A Madison County grand jury indicted a man on Nov. 12 for reckless homicide and first-degree possession of a controlled substance following a fatal accident in July 2018 that killed Mohannad Alreyes.

According to a previous Register article, Alreyes was driving his motorcycle when the accident happened at Four Mile Avenue and Ty Lane. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital and died about an hour and a half later from multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the emergency department, the Fayette County Coroner's office confirmed.

Kevin Spivey, 37, Winchester, was charged in connection to the accident, according to the indictment.

Seven people were indicted together on multiple drug trafficking charges as well as engaging in organized crime, and two of them were charged with second-degree manslaughter in addition to the drug charges.

According to the indictment, Shawn Farmer, 32, and Kathleen Paolini, 29, both of North Killarney Lane, Richmond, "wantonly caused the death of Lennie Gilbert by unlawfully distributing for remuneration fentanyl and/or methamphetamine and those substances together or independently were the proximate cause of his death."

Besides manslaughter, Farmer and Paolini are charged with engaging in organized crime, two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl), first-degree controlled substance trafficking (2 grams or more of methamphetamine), first-degree controlled substance trafficking (less than 2 grams of methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Paolini is also charged with second-degree persistent felony offender.

The grand jury also referred charges back to District Court in cases against Jeffery Oliver, 35, Louisville, and Ronald Rachford, age and address unknown.

An indictment does not indicate guilt, only that grand jurors believe the state has enough evidence to proceed with prosecution.
