A Walmart employee was arrested Thursday by Richmond police after store detectives alleged she had stolen more than $1,700 in merchandise.

Jennifer C. Thurman, 24, of Villa Drive, was charged with felony theft by unlawful taking, said Sgt. Willard Reardon, Richmond Police Department spokesman.

Thurman is accused of stealing cash, a video game console, video games and other items between Sept. 19 and Oct. 15, Reardon said.

The thefts were initially investigated by the store’s loss prevention specialists, who contacted police, Reardon said.

Thurman was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

Drug, theft charges

Police arrested a 19-year-old Waco resident for misdemeanor theft Thursday at Walmart and allegedly found drugs on her person, Reardon said.

Whitney C. Agee was initially charged with misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking for allegedly shoplifting $256 in merchandise, Reardon said.

Agee was detained by store employees until police arrived. As police searched Agee’s purse while taking her into custody, officers said they found two suspected oxycodone pills and two suspected Xanax pills, according to Reardon.

Agee was additionally charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, a felony, for the oxycodone pills, and third-degree possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, for the Xanax pills.

She was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, Reardon said.
