First responders will be honored during a special 9/11 anniversary service Sunday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church on the Eastern Bypass.
“The whole service will be very patriotic,” said Steve Coleman, the church’s minister to youth and families. Adding that the worship service will include special music, readings, special lighting, a color guard, a ladder truck parked outside and that first responders will be recognized. Later in the week, they will receive specially designed, hand-delivered certificates.
“They’re the unsung heroes,” Coleman. “We want to recognize them with a small token to say thank you.”
A free cookout will follow the service at which first responders and their families will be invited to eat first, followed by the congregation.
