2-27 Police wreck.jpg

A firefighter stands near the scene of a wreck Wednesday morning on Lexington Road in front of the Richmond Police Department. Slick roads from overnight snow caused wrecks throughout the area, and about 9:15 a.m., a wreck occurred in front of the station, according to Chief Larry Brock. An RPD officer parked his cruiser on the shoulder of the road in order to assist at the scene. While he was still inside his cruiser, another SUV came upon the wreck and the driver lost control of his vehicle, rear-ending the police car. The officer was taken to the emergency room as a precaution, but Brock said he did not appear to be seriously injured. The cruiser, which is not pictured, sustained major damage to the back end.
