Art teacher Jeremy Newell didn’t particularly choose the theme for this year’s annual one-day Halloween art exhibit at Model Laboratory School, he said.
Newell noticed a recent influx of owl-inspired art from his students, but owls also seemed to pop up elsewhere and at different times in his life, he said.
Included in the display is an owl Newell drew in 1982 when he was just 5 years old. An owl fashioned out of multi-colored paper was created by Newell’s daughter in preschool. A checkered owl with zebra stripes, swirly eyes and surrounded by stars was a student art project Newell saved from three years ago, he said. However, most of the art was created and contributed by Model high school students.
“It’s interesting to see how people interpret the subject matter each year,” Newell said.
