BEREA — A man walked into a pet store Feb. 28 and left with a new pet, but police say he did not pay for it.
The owner of Adventure Pets, 114 Prince Royal Drive, told police a man had entered the store and walked around for a while. The man then went into a small room where the nine-week-old ferret was kept, according to Berea Police Chief David Gregory.
The ferret reportedly was taken out of the cage, and the man concealed it in his jacket. He walked out of the store without paying for it, according to Gregory.
The suspect was white with a husky build, medium-length brown hair and a full beard, according to the report. He was wearing a ball cap and a dark jacket and jeans.
Man charged in domestic dispute
Police were called to a domestic dispute Saturday on Miracle Street. When they arrived, the officers separated the two parties, and one person had red bruising on the neck, according to Gregory.
Christopher Gaines, 26, of Brooklyn Boulevard, was charged with fourth-degree assault and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Berea Police Department at 986-8456.
