The last day for students in Madison County Schools will be June 1, the school board decided during a work session Thursday evening.
The board also set high school graduation dates, but left times undetermined.
Madison Central High School’s graduation will be Friday, May 29, most likely in the evening.
Madison Southern High School’s graduation will be Saturday, May 30.
The district missed 10 days this year because of inclement weather, said Erin Stewart, district spokesperson.
A few people have expressed concern that the last school day will be on a Monday, Stewart said, however, the district must abide by state laws to instruct students a specific amount of time each year.
“We understand that it might be a light day for our kids, but we must do everything we are supposed to do,” Stewart said.
Students attended school Friday as a make-up day, Stewart said, but will still be out for the primary election May 19 and Memorial Day on May 25.
