The Madison County Airport Board and Eastern Kentucky University, which serves as the airport’s fixed-base operator, will host an open house and community barbecue at the airport on Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event, free and open to the public, will feature information about EKU’s aviation program and non-university flight training schools. Food will be served from noon to 2 p.m.
Local EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) members will also offer free “Young Eagles” flights to individuals between the ages of 8 and 17, beginning at 10 a.m.
EKU assumed management of the Madison Airport in August, with Eastern alumnus Jason Bonham serving as airport manager. He also is a former EKU aviation program instructor and corporate pilot.
“We are excited to have members of the community see what’s been going at their local airport,” Bonham said.
The Madison Airport is located at 124 Airport Road. The airport can be approached from Richmond via Menelaus Road and then John Ballard Road or from Berea via Peggy Flats Road.
