Welcome to the Friday Five, where The Register asks five questions to preview local events or highlight area artists.
The Richmond Area Arts Council's Fun with the Arts program is expanding to include Saturday with the Arts. The first class is Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the RAAC, 399 W. Water St.
Randy Westbrook, RAAC director, provides more details.
1 Why did the Richmond Area Arts Council decide to expand Fun with the Arts to Saturdays with the Arts?
The arts education board felt as though Saturday morning art classes would provide opportunities for elementary school students who could not participate in our after-school program due to scheduling conflicts. In addition, we're looking to expand our programs in general.
2 What can kids expect in the classes?
This Saturday's class will include penguin painting, melting snowman science and donut snow-pops.
3 Who will be leading these classes?
The class will be taught by Peggy Blankenship. Blankenship is a teacher at White Hall Elementary School.
4 How often will the classes be held?
We plan to host Saturday with the Arts classes once a month. The dates include Feb. 15, March 21, April 18, and May 16.
5 How can people sign up for them and is there a cost?
Tuition for each two-hour class is $20 per student. Registration is available on our website under the "Fun with the Arts" link or by calling the Richmond Area Arts Center at 859-624-4242.
