Steven Frazier, husband of District 81 Representative, Deanna Frazier (R-KY), passed away on July 31 of an apparent heart attack, sources close to The Register said Saturday.

He was 48 years old.

Frazier’s visitation took place Monday evening at Unity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, also at the church. Dennis Brewer, Kenny Davis and Scott Guiley will officiate the service, according to Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond.

Friends, colleagues and political leaders took to social media on Friday and Saturday to express condolences to the Frazier family.

“Thinking of my colleague and friend, Deanna Frazier, State Representative. Her husband passed away yesterday. We are keeping her and her family in our thoughts and prayers,” Sen. Jared Carpenter (R-Berea), who represents the 34th District including Madison and Rockcastle counties, and the southern portion of Fayette County, posted on Facebook Saturday.

The Republican Party of Madison County also issued a statement on Facebook that said:

“We ask that you please keep Deanna Frazier State Representative in your prayers as her beloved husband Steven Frazier passed away …”

Chairman of the Republican Party of Kentucky, Mac Brown, released a statement on social media saying, “We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Steven Frazier. Our hearts are with Deanna and her family. We ask everyone to join us in lifting the Frazier family up in prayer through this difficult time.”

Mike Eaves, a Democrat who is challenging Deanna Frazier for the 81st House District Seat in Madison County, also took to Facebook to express his sympathy.

“I learned this morning of the death of Steven Frazier, husband of state Rep. Deanna Frazier. I’m so sorry to hear the news and wish to extend my sincere sympathies to both Deanna and the family. My prayers are with them during this most difficult time,” Eaves wrote.

Kentucky House Majority Leadership, on behalf of the House Majority Caucus, also released a statement on Monday:

“Steven’s death is a heartbreaking loss for our colleague and friend. He was a good man, a beloved husband and great father. His passing is a tragic shock. Please join us in holding them up in prayer, knowing that whatever comfort they can find will come from their faith, memories and the love of family and friends.”

Frazier, a Madison Central High School alum, was employed by Eastern Kentucky University for many years; most recently as a Project Manager M.E.P. of Capital Construction and was a master plumber with his family at James Anderson & Son.

He and his wife have two sons, Jacob and John.
