Both the day of the week and location of Richmond’s Easter Eggstravaganza are changing this year.
Traditionally, the event that attracts thousands has taken place at Irvine-McDowell Park on the Saturday morning before Easter.
However, both the Madison County Schools and Eastern Kentucky University have scheduled their spring breaks the week prior to Easter, and the event relies heavily on EKU student volunteers.
“Since the event relies so much on volunteers, and an EKU class is in charge of the games, we didn’t want to have the event during their spring break,” said Brittany Toombs, Richmond Parks and Recreation program coordinator.
Accordingly, the department has scheduled the 2015 Eggstravaganza for Tuesday evening, March 24, at Lake Reba Park. Much of the parking for Irvine-McDowell Park requires families to take children across busy Lancaster Avenue, and Lake Reba Park is well away from busy streets.
The Eggstravaganza will take place at the Lake Reba adult softball complex from 5 to 7 p.m., with the egg hunts beginning at 6. There will be inflatables, face painting, games and prizes, walk around characters and a petting zoo available for the children, Toombs said.
Also, instead of spreading candy on the fields for children to pick up, only plastic eggs that children may redeem for candy will put set out, she added.
