LONDON — A Laurel County man is in custody as a suspect in a double homicide at a residence on Tom Cat Trail.
Joseph Benge, 40, was taken into custody Tuesday night by Kentucky State Police in Mayfield, Kentucky, after law enforcement and the public throughout the area were notified he was wanted as a suspect for the murder of two people.
The double homicide occurred at his parent's house on Tuesday, but law enforcement officials had not released the names of the victims as of Tuesday at press time. However, according to scanner traffic, dispatch was alerted around 5 p.m. of the murders of Benge's parents.
The bodies of the victims were discovered Tuesday afternoon, according to Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
After law enforcement responded to the call, Laurel County Sheriff's Office sent a press release marked as urgent and posted to its Facebook page seeking information and alerting the public to the wanted man, Benge. He was considered armed and dangerous, according to the press release.
Benge fled the scene in a white colored 2015 Ford Taurus with a license plate number 118WFS, Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said.
Benge’s phone had last pinged in Mayfield, Kentucky, earlier Tuesday, according to the press release. Mayfield is about 4 hours and 40 minutes west of London.
Laurel County Sheriff's Office released at 11:30 p.m. that Benge had been captured.
