Lexington police investigating situation downtown

Lexington police are asking people to avoid the downtown area of Short and Market St.

UPDATE: Lexington police have cleared a scene downtown.

Police say an officer noticed a large RV parked in a downtown parking lot, an explosives detection canine was brought in, and it “alerted” to the vehicle.

The downtown area was evacuated and the police department’s Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the scene. Police say they made contact with the driver of the RV and no explosives were found.

LEXINGTON - According to Richmond Register newspartner, WKYT, Lexington police are asking people to avoid the downtown area of Short and Market St.

In a tweet, police say they’re investigating an incident in the area.

The Kentucky Traffic Management Center says Main St. appears to be shutdown between MLK and Broadway, and all intersecting streets are also shutdown. Limestone is shutdown between Vine and Church St.
