This Saturday is Fish Fry Day at Union City. Ruritan members will begin serving at 5 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. It is all you can eat for only $6. Everyone is welcome.

Union City Ruritan Relay for Life team conducted a steak dinner and pie auction last Saturday. Everyone enjoyed the event as the meal was offered on a donation basis. Bidding for cakes, pies, candies and other items was fundraising with a lot of fun. Bobbie Warren’s pound cake with double layer icing brought in the highest price during the auction at $160. Bo Young was the winning bidder. Total proceeds for the event were approximately $1,400.

Union City Baptist Church will observe homecoming and celebrate 196 years on Sunday. Ken Hembree, minister of Unity Baptist Church, Pascagoula, Miss., will be the speaker at the 11 a.m. service. Members of the Baptist Church who have been on mission trips to help Katrina victims in Pascagoula have worked with Mr. Hembree. All members, former members and friends are invited. A potluck dinner will follow the noon service.

The Glenn Marshall Archery Team has placed first in local and regional competition. Now they are preparing for the national event May 10 in Louisville. A fundraiser is planned for Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of Richmond Wal-Mart. There will be a bake sale plus grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. Contessa Harris, one of the team coaches, invites everyone to come out and support the team’s fundraiser.

Happy birthday this week to Adam Stringer today, Russell Webb, Butch Kirby and Lloyd Rhodus on Friday, Katie Denny on Sunday, Joe Tingle and Kelly Livers on Monday, Julie Daniels on Tuesday and Janet May on Wednesday.
