The Downtown Richmond Farmers Market will celebrate the season Saturday morning with a pumpkin festival.
Three competitions will highlight the event. Prizes will be awarded for best dish with pumpkin as its main ingredient, for best carved pumpkin and for largest pumpkin.
Vendors also will be bringing animals from their farms for a petting zoo and offering fall-related specials. A professional photographer will be on hand to take fall-themed pictures for visitors.
Pumpkin competition entrants may use only local pumpkins, either grown on their property or purchased from a local farm or farmers market. First, second and third places will be selected in each category with first-place winners taking home $100.
All entries must be registered before 10 a.m. when judging will begin.
Pre-registration and a $5 entry fee is required by Friday and can be completed online at downtownrichmondfarmersmarket.com where more details can be found.
