Coins for CASA raises more than $3,000 for local nonprofit

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Madison County is a local non-profit that trains community volunteers to advocate on behalf of a child or sibling set that has been a victim of abuse and neglect in Madison County. CASA volunteers meet with their child at least monthly and make recommendations to the Family Court Judge in the best interest of the child/children. April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month and in Madison County we held our annual Coins for CASA Fundraiser. This fundraiser is to raise awareness and to help provide more children in need with a voice. Children bring in coins and the top classroom at each school receive a pizza party. Mad Mushroom has donated pizzas the last two years and the kids love it!

This year, eight schools participated and raised $3,327.67 to help children in Madison County. This will provide three children with a CASA volunteer for an entire year. "We want to thank the schools that participated and for Mad Mushroom for donating the pizzas," said Victoria Benge, CASA's executive director. If you would like to donate to CASA of Madison County and help those most in need or would like information on getting involved, please contact us at (859) 624-4794 or victoria@madisoncasa.org.
