A falling tree snapped a Bluegrass Energy power line shortly before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of Dreyfes Road near the Estill County line. The downed line ignited a brush and ground-cover fire. Firefighters from four local fire departments and the Kentucky Division of Forestry contained a four-acre site belonging to Kimberly Bowman and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and wooded area, said Capt. Rodney Dixon of the Madison County Fire Department. Containing the fire was complicated by wind gusts of up to 45 mph, he said. Members of the Waco and Red Lick volunteer fire departments and two firefighters from the Blue Grass Army Depot also fought the fire.
