The second day of competition at the state tennis meet was not kind to Model Laboratory athletes.
Singles player Gus Benson and the doubles team of Alex Brubaker and Jack Frisbie were bounced from the tournament to end their seasons.
Benson, facing No. 4 seed Zack Lewis for the third time this season, never got on track, falling to the Lexington Catholic athlete 6-1, 6-2.
Lewis, who had not lost a game in the first or second rounds, beat Benson once during the regular season, then again for the Region 11 championship.
Brubaker and Frisbie got off to a good start in each of their games against Kentucky Country Day’s Collier Bouchillon and Matt Browne, but ended up losing 6-2, 6-2.
Brubaker and Frisbie won the first game of each set, and trailed 3-2 both times, before Bouchillon and Browne closed out each game by winning three straight.
Semifinals and finals for boys and girls will continue today at the University of Kentucky,
