‘Judgement House’ coming to Berea

BEREA — Residents of Ashland have been able to see a presentation of the drama “Judgement House” every year for about 10 years at Unity Baptist Church.

This year, the church is sending members to Westside Baptist Church in Berea to help them with the program, which begins Monday, instead of having it in Ashland.

“Judgement House” is a walk-through dramatic presentation where an audience views a tragic event leading to the main characters going first through judgment and then to hell or heaven.

Scenes are performed in different rooms of the church and groups are led by guides to each scene in the story.

Members of Unity have helped another church with the program before. In 2002, they went to Winston-Salem, N.C., to help a Spanish-language church put on the program, said the Rev. Floyd Paris of Unity.

Paris said the church is bringing the program to Berea after a family from the Unity congregation moved there.

He said bringing the program to another church is an opportunity to expose more people to God.

“It’s a visualization of a spiritual reality,” he said of the program.

Floyd said many people don’t want to come and sit in a church service but will come to see a program such as “Judgement House.”

About 25,000 to 30,000 people have been through the presentation since the church started doing it in 1999, he said.

Tammy Molton, assistant director of the “Judgement House” program at Westside, moved with her family from Berea to Ashland in 2006. She said they had visited at Unity for a while when they got the opportunity to see a “Judgement House” presentation.

“We had never seen a presentation with that much intense drama,” Molton said.

Molton said some people view the premise of “Judgement House” as a scare tactic, but that for her it was just a reflection of real life.

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Rev 21:22-27)
