Richmond First United Methodist presents ‘Mandatum,’ an Easter story, March 28-29

Special to the Register

BEREA — Richmond First United Methodist Church will present a special Holy Week worship opportunity called “Mandatum,” 6:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, March 28-29, in the church’s Multi-Ministry Center.

“Mandatum” is a multi-media remembrance of the passion of Christ beginning in the Upper Room, moving through Gethsemane, the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Great Commission of Jesus.  The worship experience will include drama, music, and audio/visual elements, culminating in the sharing of the Lord’s Supper.

Mandatum is the Latin word for commandment, the program is about the commandments surrounding the Lord’s Supper, to “do this in remembrance of me.”

“We want to offer Mandatum as a gift to the community so that they can strengthen their walk with Christ,” said Lori Chasse, “Mandatum” author and the church’s drama director.

Children are welcome to attend the service and families are encouraged to talk together about the events of Jesus’ life.

The “Mandatum” experience will include periods of darkness, some loud noises and a depiction of the crucifixion. Parents are encouraged to use their own judgment regarding the appropriateness of the presentation for their smaller children.

In keeping with United Methodist Church tradition, Holy Communion will be offered to all who wish to participate. For more details, go to: or contact Gale Heard, 623-3580, or Ginny Whitehouse, 509-220-9426.
