Special to the Register
St. Mark Catholic Church will observe the beginning of the Lenten season Feb. 13 with Ash Wednesday mass and distribution of ashes at 7 and 8:15 a.m. and again at 7 and 9 p.m.
Weather will not affect the schedule.
The 8:15 a.m. mass will be conducted with the students of St. Mark School, but will vary from their normal Wednesday service slightly.
Students who correctly answer questions about scripture and church tradition will be awarded cans of tuna instead of the usual chocolates.
The 9 p.m. service will be on Eastern Kentucky University’s campus at the Catholic Campus Ministry building.
“This is a very special time for our community and it means so much to so many people,” said Father Jim Sichko, St. Mark pastor.
