Howard William Mastin, 81

RICHMOND — Howard William Mastin, 81, of Richmond, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013, at Baptist Health-Richmond.

Mr. Mastin was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky, on August 16, 1932, the son of Tilford Earl and Lucy Spegal Mastin.

He retired from National Metal Processing in Richmond and was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Big Hill Christian Church for 37 years and dearly loved his church family. He also had enjoyed volunteering for Open Concern.

In 1974, he was united in marriage to Margaret Helen “Peggy” VonAllmen Mastin who preceded him in death in 2008.

Mr. Mastin is survived by: two sons, Robert Mastin and wife Meredith of Richmond, and William “Bill” Mastin of Nashville, Tennessee; two daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Bryan and husband Michael of Easley, South Carolina, and Donna Sandidge and husband Henry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two brothers, Earnest Mastin, and David Mastin and wife June Ann; his sister, Doris Franklin; his son-in-law, Michael Piland and wife Marie; 10 grandchildren, Gregory Sandidge and wife Rachel, Jeana Sandidge, Quentin Piland, Hailee Piland, Robert Bryan, Aubrey Bryan, Morgan Mastin, Mason Mastin, Matthew Mastin and Madalee Mastin; two great-grandchildren, Ellie Jo Sandidge and Karina Elizabeth Sandidge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Barbara Piland; and two brothers, Earl Mastin Jr. and Charles Mastin.

His funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Big Hill Christian Church with Bro. Jim Riggs officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Gregory Sandidge, Quentin Piland, Robert Bryan, Grover Adams, Kenny Turpin and William “Curly” Clark.

A private committal service will be conducted at the Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville.

Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
