James Prestley Garrett, 96, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
He was born on August 25, 1916, in Madison County, the son of Si and Rose Stevens Garrett.
He was a construction worker and handyman. Mr. Garrett was of the Holiness Faith and enjoyed visiting different congregations. He loved to whittle and fish.
Survivors include: one son, Prestley Garrett (Carolyn Sue) of Richmond; one daughter, Opal Isaacs (William C.) of Richmond; one sister, Emma Jane Land of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Tonya Hatton (C.B.), Keith Garrett (Diane Smith), Vickie Rayburn (John), Ricky Garrett, Billy Isaacs (Christina), Leah Garrett, Tony Garrett (Patricia), and Kendra Harris; six great-grandchildren, Jason Garrett, Donovan Garrett, Libby Garrett, Britiney Garrett, Kimber-Lee Garrett and Tamara Garrett; four great-great grandchildren, Shaelyn Garrett, Breez Crabtree, Brooklin Rader and Autumn Crabtree; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Elvie Evans, Bro. Ray Northern and Bro. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the White Hall Holiness Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Tony Garrett, Jason Garrett, Donovan Garrett, Jamie Isaacs, Sterling Walters, C. B. Hatton and James Davis.
Grandsons & Granddaughters will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
