RICHMOND — Charles Edwin Wiley passed away at Telford Terrace, Richmond, Kentucky, on Friday, September 20, 2013.

Charles was born November 25, 1915, on the family farm, Beechwood Springs, Owen County, Ky.

His parents were Bloomfield Wiley and Kate Fitzgerald Wiley. His siblings were: Lula (Raymond) Dickey; E. Robert (Wilhelmina); E. Conn (Christine); Elzora Susan (Laurel) Cobb; Snoda Trimble (Gale) Templin; and Davis, who all preceded him in death.

He married Anna Doreatha Kerby, and they enjoyed 58 years together until her death in 2000. He is survived by their two daughters, Kate Marie (Philip) Bartok and Susan Ann (Peter) Conrick.

He had four grandchildren, Anna Bartok, Alyssa Bartok, James (Kiri) Conrick and Patrick Conrick.

Charles graduated from Owenton High School. He attended Georgetown College on a basketball scholarship and then the University of Kentucky for a semester before entering the military. He received his B.A. from San Diego State University.

A major in the U.S. Air Force, he was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the beginning of the Vietnam War.

He also was a history and English teacher in the Los Angeles School District. He was a lifelong learner, athlete and dedicated family man.

Charles was a man of faith and integrity who touched the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He greatly appreciated the wonderful care and attention he received while living at McCready Manor and Telford Terrace in Richmond, Ky.

His funeral will be September 27 at Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth, California.
