Christine Kersey Coates, 82

MADISON COUNTY — Christine Kersey Coates, 82, wife of Edward “June” Coates, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 30, 2013, at the Compassionate Care Center after a brief illness.

Christine, although a lifelong resident of Madison County, was born in Prebble County, Ohio, on September 16, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Russell and Sadie Kersey but made her home with her late grandparents, James and Callie Masters Kersey.

She was employed at the former Westinghouse Plant in Richmond and retired from North American Phillips. For a large part of her life, she attended and was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her loving husband, Edward “June” Coates Jr.; a sister, Carolyn Rhorer of Lexington; and special friends Mike and Ann Friend and their family.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa D. Coates.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Hamp Valentine, Rev. Sam Sowder and Rev. James Ashcraft officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Mike Friend, Steve Friend, David King, Mason Griggs, Larry Jones and Mitchell Smith.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
