James Johnson, 60

Berea

BEREA — James Howard “J.J.” Johnson, 60, of Berea, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, in the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.

He was a life-long resident of Berea, born July 24, 1952, son of the late Nathaniel and Virginia Mathews Johnson, U.S. Navy veteran, retired Blue Grass Army Depot employee with 25 years of service, and member of Glades Christian Church. J.J. was an avid fisherman and golfer, a life-long UK basketball fan and NASCAR enthusiast.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Gilbert Johnson; two sons, Jimmy (Schavon) Johnson, Kris Johnson; three sisters, Deanna Shelton, Dianna Johnson, Beverly Johnson; a special granddaughter, Madalynn Lee Johnson; four nephews, two nieces and a great niece, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Glades Christian Church with Bro. Arthur Hunt officiating. Burial in Berea Cemetery in the Johnson Family Section with military honors.

Visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church.

Pallbearers: Jimmy Johnson, Kris Johnson, Travis Casteel, Matt Morris, Johnny Jones, Terry Trent, Johnathan Dooley, Mason Anglin. Honorary pallbearers: Noel Wayne Johnson, Ronnie Anderson, Bill Palahunich, Mitch Maupin, Rocky Anglin, Josh Anglin, Trinity Anglin, Allen VanWinkle, Tommy Shelton, Robby Garnett, Stephen Lee Dooley.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY 40475.
