BEREA — Delona (Hacker) Huffman, 95, born October 25, 1917, in Clay County, Kentucky,peacefully departed this earth at her home on Barnes Mill Road in Richmond, Kentucky, on May 4, 2013.

Delona was preceded in death by: her parents, Reuben Frank Hacker and Malvery (Burns) Hacker, of Oneida, Kentucky; her husband, Fred Ralph Huffman of Richmond; two brothers, Raleigh Hacker and Toleman Hacker; one sister, Ica (Hacker) Roberts; one son, Ralph Franklin Huffman, and one grandson, Jesse Wayne Huffman.

Delona is survived by: one son, Durward Wayne Huffman, two daughters, Donna Sue (Huffman) Howell and Isa Veree (Huffman) Barnes, all of Richmond.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Delona graduated from Eastern State College in 1935 and began her teaching career in a one room school house in Clay County. After moving to Richmond in 1958, she became Director of Pupil Personnel forr the Richmond City Schools until her retirement in 1981.

Delona was a member and past president of the Altrusa Club and the Richmond Woman’s Club, as well as a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.

She also was on the board of directors of Open Concern of Richmond.

Her funeral and visitation will be at the Britton Funeral Home in Manchester, Kentucky, where final arrangements are incomplete. A private family graveside service will follow at the Oneida Cemetery.
