BEREA — Marvin Edward Onkst, age 78, husband of Jackie Onkst of Berea, died Tuesday Sept. 10, 2013 at the Compassionate Care Center.

A U.S. Army veteran, Marvin served with NATO Forces in Europe, including France and Italy. He was a member of the Holiness Faith and belonged to the Crestview Holy Sanctuary. He was a retired insurance salesman who also had worked as a dispatcher for the Kentucky State Police.  

Marvin is survived by: his wife, Jackie Blanton Onkst of Berea; his sons, Richard (Heather) Onkst and Joel (Angela) Onkst, both of Louisville; sisters Connie Hedrick of Richmond and Sylvia Vanhook of London, Ky.; grandchildren Joel W. Onkst, Lauren Bacon, Lindsey (Jason) Zoeller, Brock Cassin, Taylor Cassin; and great-grandson Cannon Thomas Zoeller.

Marvin was preceded in death by: his parents, Preston Edward and Elva Green Medley Onkst; his sister, Rosina Madden; and an infant brother, Oscar Onkst.  

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Crestview Holy Sanctuary in Berea with Rev. Achee Eads, Rev. Harold Eads, Rev. Richard Howard and Rev. Stanley Blanton officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Madison County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crestview Holy Sanctuary.
