BEREA — Carlis Richards, age 79, husband of Shirley Richards, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Carlis was a retired safety and security director for St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Illinois, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was born in Louisville, Ky., to the late Charlie Calvin and Lida Pearl Melson Richards.

Carlis is survived by: his wife, Shirley Richards, and their children, Louise (Gary) Blankenship and Carlis Richards; siblings, Paul Charles “Tommy” Richards, George “Eddie” Richards, Joyce Carol Owens, Connie Lumpkin and Diane Smith; grandchildren, Andrea Viano, Stacey Purcell, Ronnie Blankenship, Nicole Blankenship and Hannah Richards; great-grandchildren, Abby, John and Ainsley Viano, Luke and Austin Purcell, and Paige Blankenship.

Carlis was preceded in death by siblings, Joyce Ann Richards, Stanley Richards, Linda Gayle Richards and Mable Richards.

Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 5, 2013, at Lakes Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakes Funeral Home.
