Virginia “Jenny” Karnes, 83, Zimmerman, Minn. (formerly of Kentucky), died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at her home in Zimmerman.

Jenny was born on July 17,1929, in Flatwoods, Ky., the daughter of Joshua and Martha (Wiley) Strickland.

She graduated from Russell High School in Russell County, where she was a cheerleader. She took her X-Ray Technician training at the Medical College of Virginia. She was united in marriage with Raymond Graham Karnes on Sept. 6, 1953. She worked as an X-Ray Technician and (PHT) “Put Hubby Through” Ohio State University.

Virginia was true to her frontier ancestors who opened the Kentucky territory, in her strength of will and ability to adapt and perform in many ways. She was politically active in several campaigns, was a weaver, caner and worked with clay. She mastered nearly every craft she tried. She sewed her own clothes and her daughters’ clothes and for most of her days worked as a homemaker supporting and guiding the lives of her five most dependent family members, including her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond G. Karnes of Zimmerman; four children, Ray S. “Rick” Karnes of Marshall, Wisc., Martha E. (Wesley) Klatt of Tomah, Wisc., Charles E. (Molly) Karnes of Zimmerman, and Mary K. (Scott) Plummer of Arlington, Wisc.; seven grandchildren, Gwyneth Blindauer, Emily and Elizabeth Klatt, Samantha, Alexander and Zachary Karnes, Grace Plummer; a sister and two brothers, Elizabeth DeLoach, Jacksonville, Fla., Roger Strickland, Lake Wales, Fla., and Joshua Strickland Jr., Springfield, La..

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Martha Strickland; a brother, John Strickland; and a sister, Juanita Manning.

Memorials are preferred to Guardian Angels Elim Home Care and Hospice, 280 Evans Ave NW, Elk River, MN 55330 or your local Hospice provider.

Visitation is one hour before services at the funeral home.

The service will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Princeton, Minn.

Burial will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.
