Ronald Pennington, 82

BEREA — Ronald Pennington, husband of Henrietta Pennington, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond at the age of 82.

He was born in Lexington to the late John Henry and Bonnie Johnson Pennington.

Mr. Pennington was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was a member and former Deacon and Chairman of the Board of First Christian Church and was Vice President of the Berea Industrial Authority. His other memberships include the Berea and Kingston Masonic Lodges, Oleika Temple, Scottish Rite, Cleveland Frost Post 50, American Legion, and the Berea Chamber of Commerce since it was founded.

He had served on the Berea City School Board, director of Blue Grass Rural Electric Corp., President of the Madison County Board of Realtors, Berea Cemetery Board, and was a former member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis Club.

In 1988, he received the Red Tie Award from Mayor Clifford Kirby for his work on the Berea Industrial Authority, and, in 1989, he received the Merit Award from the American Legion.

Mr. Pennington had worked for J. W. Purkey & Son and ran a country store in Kingston. In 1955, he went into the clothing business with his brother Donald. In 1959, he entered into the insurance business as an Independent Insurance Agent where he received several awards from different insurance companies. He obtained a Real Estate Broker’s license in 1966 and remained active in insurance and real estate for several years.

Other than his wife Henrietta, he is survived by his children Steve (Sally) Pennington of Berea, and Lisa Caudill of Berea. Four grandchildren, John (Caitlin) Pennington of Lexington, Chris (Christina) Pennington of Richmond, Erin (Todd) Holbrook of Berea, Stephen (Lindsey) Caudill of Berea, and six great grandchildren, Will Holbrook, Alex Holbrook, Madeline Caudill, Blake, Brooke and Bella Grace Pennington also survive.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Tony J. and Virgil Pennington, and his son-in-law, Mike Caudill.

Funeral services for Mr. Pennington will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Berea with Dr. Ed McCurley and Steve Caudill officiating.

Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Davis & Powell Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be John Pennington, Chris Pennington, Erin Holbrook, Stephen Caudill, Todd Holbrook, Joe Pennington, David Pennington, and Russell Powell.
