Gerald Brooks Garner, 72


RICHMOND — Gerald Brooks Garner, 72, of Richmond, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

He was born June 8, 1941, in Bath County, Kentucky, to the late Brooks Herman Garner and Almenia Nadine (Johnson) Garner Jones, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Dewey Jones.

Gerald was a retired wholesale hardware salesman with Orgill Brothers of Memphis, Tennessee, and had served in the U.S. Army. He coached numerous youth in the Richmond Little League for many years, and he loved to watch his grandchildren participate in extracurricular activities.

He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky basketball program and was a member of the Richmond Elks Lodge, Red House Baptist Church, and he was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include: his wife, Linda “Penny” (Jones) Garner; three daughters, Jaime Garner, Shannon Garner Howe and Kimberly Richardson (and J.D.), all of Richmond; two sons, John Moseley (and Pam) of Lexington and Steven Garner (and Jeanne) of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; his grandchildren, Ashley Durham Bicknell, Lindsay Richardson Morgan, Kristen Richardson James, Darrin Pingleton, Trae Moseley, Emaleigh Ramsey, Alexa Stephens, Brook Howe, Jordan Moseley, Lakyn Weaver and Blake Weaver, as well as one great-grandson, Mason James. He also leaves a special niece and nephew, Tracey and Billy Weaver whom he considered as his own children.

Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie “Butch” Pennington officiating.

Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Terry Charles, Tommy Hawkins, David Smith, Grover “Bob” Jones, Cliff Winkler and Mike Staton. Honorary pallbearers will beMason Griggs, Herb Lutz, Terry Meeks, Billy Weaver, J. D. Richardson, Darrin Pingleton, Trae Moseley, David James, Sean Morgan and Brandon Bicknell.

The family requests that in Lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital at PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.

And the family wishes to thank Dr. Joshi for the care given to him at Baptist Health.

    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
