Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral

RICHMOND — Hobart Carnes, 91, died in his home on Elliott Ford Road.

He was born on October 21, 1921, in Madison County to Hobart Carnes Sr. and Rena Parke Carnes. He was predeceased by a brother, James Madison Carnes.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Jenkins Carnes; and three children, Janice (Edwin) Luxon, John Carnes and Beverly Pyle, all of Madison County. He had six grandchildren: Kathy Luxon (Rob) Congleton and Edwin (Karen) Luxon Jr., both of Richmond; Brandise Langford, Louisville; William (Ivana) Langford, Ft. Mitchell; Dr. Stan (Heidi) Carnes, Stanford; and John (Kathleen) Carnes, Edgewood. He is further survived by 16 great-grandchildren, and a niece, JoAnn Park.

Hobart was a farmer and had owned and bred Angus cattle since 1946. He and his son, John, were partners in the cattle farming operation. He was the county representative on the Richmond Planning and Zoning Board for 27 years and held the position of chairman for several years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and had actively served at Big Hill Avenue Christian Church in the past.

Funeral services for Hobart Carnes will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Birkett and Dr. Robert Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Congleton, Rob Congleton, Edwin Luxon Jr., Dr. Stan Carnes, John Carnes, and Bill Langford.
