Ruby Roberts of Richmond passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at The Terrace Nursing & Rehab Facility in Berea.
She was born June 19, 1930, and raised on a farm in Madison County, a heritage of which she was very proud.
Ruby graduated from Kirksville High School and began her working career at Bell South in Richmond. She took a break from her work to raise her three children.
She took classes at Clear Creek Baptist College with her late husband, Donald, and later worked at Britt’s Department Store of Richmond.
Ruby finished her working career at JCPenney where she retired from in 1997.
She enjoyed her service as a Pink Lady volunteer at the former Pattie A. Clay Hospital. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Richmond.
Ruby was preceded in death by: her husband, Donald L. Roberts; her parents, Conley C. and Ethel Jackson Combs; three sisters, Norma C. Williams, Gladys C. Newland and Allie Mae Combs; one brother, Ed Combs; one sister-in-law, Katherine Combs; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Turner Newland Sr. and Thomas Williams Jr.
She is survived by: one daughter, Donna (Wayne) Howard of Richmond; two sons, Jerry (Maria) Roberts of Paint Lick and Steve (Hannah Ciccarelli) Roberts of Richmond; six grandchildren, Jason (Trina) Howard, Amy Howard Justice, Lindsey Brooke Roberts, Kalee Long Roberts, Daniel Louis Roberts, Samuel Clayton Roberts; and one great-grandchild, Abigale Bristol Justice.
Ruby is also survived by: two sisters, Dorothy C. Shelton and Thelma (Jesse Paul) Bishop; two brothers, Chandler (Martha) Combs and Bobby (Bertha) Combs; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Visitation for Ruby will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, officiated by Ruby’s pastor, Bro. Bobby Green. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Combs, Jason Howard, Ken Justice, Doug Roberts, Bill Grise, Doug Shelton and Tyler Anderson. Honorary bearers will be Jesse Paul Bishop, Jim Emerson, Kenneth White and Darrell Daff.
