Dorothy Kirby McHargue, 89

RICHMOND — Mrs. Dorothy Kirby McHargue, age 89, of Berea, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

She was born June 24, 1925, in Rockcastle County, Ky., a daughter of William and Nancy McVey Kirby.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. Family was the most important part of her life, sharing the love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, reading and telling stories to the children and was especially noted for her “Little Orphan Annie” tales.

She is survived by: two sons, Richard McHargue and wife Paula of Richmond, and Roy K. McHargue and wife Brenda of Berea; three daughters, Anna Augustine, June Cain and Kay Farley and husband Curt, all of Richmond; a sister, Carrie Margie Cromer of Berea; nine grandchildren, William Keith Johnson, Roy Alan Johnson, Melanie Johnson Seals, LaDonna Brittain, Jeremy McHargue, Matthew McHargue, Curt Farley, Laura Farley and Christy Stone; and 14 great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy McHargue; four brothers, Richard, Jay, Johnny, and Joe Kirby; and four sisters, Gladys, Violet, Lorene, and Evelyn.

Funeral services for Mrs. McHargue will be conducted Monday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at the Dowell & Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon by Dr. Floyd Price and Bro. Vaughn Rasor. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Friends may call at Dowell & Martin Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The family has requested donations to: Hospice Care Plus Compassionate Care Center at 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, Ky., 40475.
