Freddy Keith Lear, 59

BEREA — Freddy Keith Lear, age 59 of Berea, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

He was born in Berea, Ky., on August 8, 1954, the son of Herbert and Beulah Thacker Lear.

A retired employee of the City of Berea, he was a member of the Scaffold Cane Baptist Church.

He enjoyed walking and working on his farm and was active in children’s ministries, visiting shut-ins, and many other charitable activities.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara Johnson Lear; a son, Freddy Keith Lear Jr. and wife Lindsey of Berea; a daughter, Christy Michelle Lear VanWinkle and Jimmy Hall of Berea; his mother, Beulah Lear of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Terry Lear, Eddie Lear and Mike Lear, all of Mt. Vernon; and two sisters, Cindy Lear Mobley and husband Todd of Berea, and Gloria Lear Morrison and husband Woody of Richmond.

Also surviving are: seven grandchildren, Sierra VanWinkle, Brayden Lear, Kane Hall, Randall Walls, Dray Hall, Zachary Vick and Kayleigh Vick.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Lear; and his mother and father-in-law, Nancy and Speed Johnson.

Funeral services for Mr. Lear were conducted Monday, June 16, at the Scaffold Cane Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon by Bros. Chris Cobb and Ed Cortez. Burial followed in Scaffold Cane Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday at Scaffold Cane Baptist Church.

    He was born December 14, 1921, in Bay Springs, Mississippi, to James and Sybil Thigpen Scott, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife, Virginia Webb Scott.

    In 2002, she moved to Richmond to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jerrilyn and Jack Dyer. She lived in their home until mid 2010 before moving to the Kenwood Nursing Center.
