Robert “Bimbo” Gooslin, 62

Robert Franklin “Bimbo” Gooslin, 62, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, December 7, 2009, after losing his battle with cancer.

Bimbo is survived by his son, Mark Shannon Gooslin, of Lexington, a host of relatives including Theron Gooslin, Maxine Scott, Janet Willis and Jacqueline Stone.

In addition to his parents, Millard Gooslin Jr. and Aliene Scott Gooslin, he was preceded in death by his older brother, David Gooslin.

After his cancer diagnosis, Bimbo still continued his 21-year career with Purnell “Old Folks” Sausage Company, as a sales representative, but eventually was forced to retire a few months before his death. He was able to take his son Mark to New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and Hawaii, while nearing the end of his life.

Bimbo’s greatest joy in life was his son, Mark, University of Kentucky sports, golf, jigsaw puzzles and his many close friends, including a special friend, Gwen Haggard (“The Gwennie Bee”), his primary caregiver. Bimbo’s legacy in this world will be that he was “always remembered as a loyal friend, who never had an ill word to say about anyone and a man who everyone will remember, with a big smile on their face, as a kind, fun, generous person we were all so very lucky to know and love.”

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, Ky. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be William “Bill” Haggard, Jerry Lee Burns, Sammy Haggard, Leon Stidham, Jack Scott and Randy Scott. Honorary bearers will be Charlie Callahan, Theron Gooslin, Jeremiah Willis, Zachariah Willis and Jerry Burton.

Remembrances are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, who made it possible for Bimbo to stay at home with his friends until the end.
