Mildred ‘Mickie’ Sowers, 80

RICHMOND — Mildred “Mickie” Sowers, 80, went to be with the Lord, Friday, May 4, 2013.

She was born January 31, 1933, in  Madison County, Ky., the daughter of the late Glenmore and Terry Hager Howard.

Mrs. Sowers was a member of the Richmond House of Prayer. She loved poetry, raising flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed southern gospel music and listening to WLJC Christian Channel.

Mrs. Sowers is survived by: her husband of 62 years, Stant Sowers; two daughters, Kathy Moody (Michael), Richmond, and Vickie Richardson (Wayne), Berea; special niece, Jamie Lynne Allen (Paul); one brother, Glen Howard (Betty), Richmond; three grandchildren, Shawn Moody (Bridget), Mickie Ann Gabbard; and Jackie JoAnn Isaacs, all of Berea; six great-grandchildren: Aaron Moody, Austin Moody, Dalton Moody, Brooklyn Isaacs, Bethany Wilson, and Jessica Gabbard; and one great-great grandchild, Elijah Aaron Moody.

She was preceded in death by: two brothers, Lewis Howard and Chester Howard; and seven sisters, Louiza Taylor, Dixie Abrams, Virgie Barnes, Emma Garrett, Lucy Harvey, Estelle St. John and Gracie Renfro; one grandson, Shane Moody; and one great-granddaughter, Amberlyn Rae Gabbard.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Owen Moody and Bro. Danny Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Middleton, Larry Moody, David Sowers, Steve Sowers, Vernon Sowers and Raymond Sowers.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Aaron Moody, Dalton Moody, Austin Moody, Raymond Hager, Donnie Strong, Sammy Howard, Leslie Renfro, and Paul Allen.

    Gerene Kersey, 87, of Leitchfield, Ky., died Wednesday.
    She is survived by a daughter, Pam Bennett (Vernon), of Richmond, Ky.
    Funeral services will be 1 p.m. CDT Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Little Clifty Cemetery.
    Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral home.

    Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
    Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
