Joseph ‘Joe’ Sandlin Short, 79

Richmond

RICHMOND — Joseph “Joe” Sandlin Short, 79, lifelong resident of Richmond, passed from this life to his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, June 20, 2013.

Joe was born at home on May 20, 1934, to the late Felix Preston Short and Dovie Mae Hurt Short. Joe only weighed around two pounds when born and wasn’t expected to live through the night, but his triumphant spirit, even though newborn, saw him through.

That spirit and the love of his parents, and siblings saw him through 79 amazing years of life.

Joe loved to visit, be around and even work at the garages near his home, walking everywhere he went. Joe never met a stranger and loved life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Geraldine Cain, Nettie Bowman, Dorothy Lovett and Nellie Madden; and three brothers: William Short, James Short, and Harold Short.

Joe is survived by his sister: Maureen Gaffney (Les); two brothers: Carl Short (Mary) and Merle Short (Pam).

Joe was preceded in death and survived by numerous friends, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., with Rev. Butch Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Craig Hobbs, Derek Ward, Chris House, Austin House, Patrick Short, and Cory Short.

The family would like to thank the staff of Madison Manor for their care of Joe this past year.

Now that you are able Joe, sing loud enough for all of Heaven to hear you.
