Clarence Elvin Feltner Jr., 83

New York City and West Palm Beach, Fla.

RICHMOND — Clarence Elvin Feltner Jr., 83, of New York City and West Palm Beach, Fla, formerly of Hazard, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at his residence in NYC.

Born August 20, 1929, in Krypton, Perry County, the son of Clarence E. and Dora Feltner, his successful career as a film producer, television broadcaster and telecommunications entrepreneur began soon after graduation from Hazard High School as an instructor at the RCA Institute for TV Production in New York City.

He later founded Krypton International Corp., named to honor his birthplace, which owned and operated independent television stations in the southeastern United States.

He is best known as a producer for his film, “Carnival Magic,” and as owner of a significant private film collection. Author of “Winning is Everything, Losing is Nothing: For Nice Folks Who Want to Finish First,” he was a partner in Palm Beach Films Inc. and former owner of the USBA professional basketball team, The Palm Beach Stingrays.   

A U.S. Army veteran, he lived most of his life was in New York and Florida, but his heart remained with the “gentle and caring people of eastern Kentucky.”

He is survived by brothers Donald R. (Marthalyn Jo) of Richmond, Arnold Gene (Ruth) of Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister, Mary Rose Stephens (Rupert), Viera, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. June 26 at First Presbyterian Church, Hazard.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hazard Community College or the American Cancer Society.
