Dr. Nancy Lee-Riffe, 80

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Dr. Nancy McLaurine Lee-Riffe, 80, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Sugar Land, Texas.

She was born to the late Madison Johnson Lee and Nan Mayers Lee, Jan. 16, 1933, in Danville, Ky.

Nancy received a B.A. in Greek from Agnes Scott College in 1954. She graduated first in her class and was a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. In 1955 she received her M.A .in English from Radcliff College/Harvard University and in 1963, Nancy earned her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Kentucky.

She taught for 30 years and retired from Eastern Kentucky University and was a long-time resident of Madison County.

During her years living in Richmond and Berea, Ky, Nancy was active in many community groups including The ARC of Madison County and The Berea Friends Meeting.

Nancy was predeceased by her daughter, Suzy Riffe, Berea, Ky., and is survived by four children: Christopher Riffe of Sugar Land, Texas; Madison Riffe of Beaufort, N.C.; and Daniel Riffe and Sara Pritchard, of Morehead City, N.C. She also is survived by three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Berea Friends Meeting House Fund and The Arc of Madison County.

A memorial service, to be announced at a later day, will be conducted in Berea, Ky.
