Agnes Inez Richardson Shafer, 86

Richmond

RICHMOND — Agnes Inez Richardson Shafer, 86, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the Telford Terrace nursing facility in Richmond.

Inez was born September 11, 1927, in Jamestown, N.C., to the late Bascom Lee and Elsie Mae Anthony Richardson. She was married to the late William Charles Shafer Sr. on September 21, 1947, and together they enjoyed many years.

Inez earned her master’s degree in the early 1980s from the University of Kentucky and was a devoted elementary teacher having taught at Stonewall Elementary School in Lexington for several years. She was very active in church and was a member of the Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church in Lexington, where she was a deacon and also served as chair of the Presbyterian Women.

Survivors include: her three sons, Brian Christopher Shafer (Mikal), William Charles Shafer Jr. (Karen) and Mark Eldon Shafer (Holly); four grandchildren, Brandon (Carly), Hannah, Sarah and Emily; two sisters, Fletta Mae Scripps,and Rachel Mayo.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her four brothers. 

A memorial service will be announced later.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

    Mrs. Hardy was born November 12, 1912, in Valley View, Kentucky. She was a homemaker, a retired seamstress and was of the Baptist faith.

    He was born July 14, 1954, in Orange, New Jersey, to Frank and Marjorie McDowell Dalton, both of whom preceded him in death.

  • Gary Lee Winburn, 69

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
