Frances E. Moore, 100

BEREA — Frances E. Moore, age 100, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in the St. Joseph Hospital of Lexington.

She was born October 14, 1912, in Berea, Ky., to the late Carlos E. Moore Sr. and China Hudson Moore. Ms. Moore was a Christian by faith.

Ms. Moore was a 1936 graduate of Berea College and taught school at the High Point School in rural Madison County and at Madison Central High School prior to becoming a budget and fiscal officer for the federal government working 23 years in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Ga.

She loved her country, state and the city of Berea. She was elected to the Berea City Council in 1967 and served until December of 1975, completing four terms.

She was a member of the Laurel Ridges Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In the early 1970s, Ms. Moore led the campaign to save the L&N Train Depot and have it placed on the National Historic Registry.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John William Moore and Carlos Edward Moore II.

She is survived by: a niece, Jane Frances Bruno of Montclair, Va., and a nephew, Carlos Edward Moore III of Lexington, Ky., and close friend, Joan Lewis of Berea.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 11, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Friends may begin calling at 11 a.m. until the service. Flowers are accepted. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
