BEREA — Birchel Fields, age 96, of Scaffold Cane in Berea, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Berea Health Care Center.

Birchel was born in Perry County, Kentucky, to the late Slaney and Stella Caudill Fields. He was a self-employed sawmill worker and a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Chapel Pratt Fields, five children, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by: his six children, Trudy (George) Cates, Rita (Boyd) Adams, Earl (Janette) Fields, JoEtta (George) Goodrich, Glenis (Brenda) Fields and Ray (Kim) Fields; and one brother, Riley Fields. Seventeen grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday April 16, 2014, at Lakes Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Himes officiating. Burial will follow at the Pilot Knob Cemetery.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lakes Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Fields, Emery Fields, Larry Phillips, Larry Goodrich, Orville Lamb, Eddie Todd, Roy Gene Todd and Ray Phillips. Honorary bearer will be Clifton “Sparky” Sparks.
